Adapter-X Project

The mode switch on the steering wheel, derived from the 918 Spyder, is equipped in the 991.2/718 and the latest 971/9YA with the Sport Chrono Package. Four driving modes are available to choose from: 'Normal', 'Sport', 'Sport Plus', and 'Individual'.

First generation GPS adapters can make the latest MF PDK shifts steering wheel work in older Porsches, but they cannot support the mode switch because the 991.1/981/958 clock springs cannot process the mode switch signals from the steering wheel. All 12 pins in the steering wheel to clock spring connector are used, so we need to capture the mode switch in the steering wheel and transfer it to the center console module adapter wirelessly. Bluetooth is used to do this. The challenge is to integrate the BT chips and process many more signals in a limited space circuit board, requiring the design of all new circuits and the rewriting of 80% of the program code.

Adapter-A is installed in the steering wheel and includes the conversion of MF/HEAT/LIGHT signals, capturing and synchronizing the MODE SWITCH status to Adapter-B.

Adapter-B is connected in series to the Center control buttons module, processing the center console buttons signals.

Mode switch support installation is plug and play, no coding needed. It fits to new MF PDK paddles steering steps the same as the first generation GPS adapter. Parts and installation steps depend on the type of old steering wheel equipped.
